Rules to live by...

You can debate all day long whether these apply to you or not and hopefully you will never have to figure it out but if this ever happened I hope you can remember the rules. Maybe you have seen them before...

And if I seem to be looking at you funny, it's because I'm remembering #21.

Thanks DT

#24 - I feel quite well protected with a handgun whose caliber starts with .357 and ends with "magnum".

For practical reasons I usually carry a .40S&W. If I had my choice, I'd have something staring with 1 and ending in "gauge".

#10 suggests that you failed to observe #3.

#26 is very true. I took a night shooting course, and it is a world of difference. In one practical pistol course I designed the shooters had to run 100 yards before shooting, to simulate the pulse-pounding stress of a real life/death situation. Everyone's speed and accuracy went way down.

What he says about cover is true. Go to your house and look around for bulletproof cover. There probably is not any. If it is your house, you have the advantage of knowing the layout and deciding on a strategic point to defend. In my house, if we are all upstairs, it is pretty easy to keep anyone from coming up the stairs. So use the "home court advantage" to your best benefit.
