Gun talk

I went to the gun show yesterday with a few thousand of my closest friends and the main topic of conversation amongst us was "buy 'em now before Obama takes 'em away"! I thought it was a bit extreme and a bit early to be so worried and made no further purchases besides some ammo that I needed. Now I read this and I can't wait until the next show. I just have to decide which one (or two) I want.

So many toys, so little money and time...

I think that it would be a good time to buy any high-capacity magazines you might want in the future. Otherwise I am not going on a big buying spree.

We ought to have a blogger practical pistol shoot, in honor of BO's election.

I think I need to get a hi-cap 1911 mag, although normally I believe it looks silly protruding from the bottom of the grip.

I would be all for the practical shoot. Of course, as IPSC evolved and required ever more esoteric equipment, calling into question the term 'practical', many in the sport migrated to Cowboy Action, utilizing wheelguns, carbines, and scatterguns, as well as traditional old west garb. Now that's fun!

You're right about IPSC getting silly with their tricked out race guns with optical sights bigger than the gun, so you could never carry the thing concealed. I try to stick to the spirit of defensive use. Twelve years ago I finished forth in the state of Arizona shooting a .357 magnum revolver. Everyone else in the top ten used a 1911 race gun with optics. Since kids came along, I am really out of practice.

Which .357 revolver? Mod. 19, Colt, Dan W., Ruger?

When RTB and Dew and I went out on Vets' Day, I took a Security Six w/factory OS grips. We all took turns and had a great time. Also did some rimfire plinking (SA rev, SR Mk 1, Stoeger Luger), and some .45 ACP (1911 and P-90).

Ruger GP-100. It is a great gun.

Makes sense to shoot the home team fave - am assuming the GP was made in Prescott. Am a big fan of SR&Co myself.

What do you shoot for comp? 148 WC over Bullseye or Red Dot?

Hey Todd, do you mind if D² and I take over and renovate your blog for a private chatroom?
