I try to stick to the spirit of defensive use. Twelve years ago I finished forth in the state of Arizona shooting a .357 magnum revolver. Everyone else in the top ten used a 1911 race gun with optics. Of course, as IPSC evolved and required ever more esoteric equipment, calling into question the term 'practical', many in the sport migrated to Cowboy Action, utilizing wheelguns, carbines, and scatterguns, as well as traditional old west garb.
